From the upper deck, you can see clear across the valley to the mountain ranges on the other side, including Cove Mountain to the south, Lumber Ridge and Roundtop Mountain to the southwest, Hatcher Mountain to the west, and Bates Mountain to the northwest. On a clear day, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of North Carolina between Cove Mountain and Lumber Ridge.

The lower deck is a little closer to nature. Sit on the porch swing and listen to the birds and crickets chirping, or watch the squirrels playing in the trees.

In the valley is a wonderful Baptist church whose bells chime the noon hour and play an occasional hymn on Sunday mornings.
